The Hornet boys golf team won the 2nd annual Border Cup 18 hole tournament over Breckinridge County while completing the 18 hole tourney at The Breckinridge County Community Center Golf Course in Hardinsburg with close score of 333 to 336. Tanner Staples (77) and Justin Kurz (79) led the Hornets. The first nine holes were played at Windward Heights Country Club on Monday and saw the Hornets and the Tigers end the day tied at 172. The second round 9 at Breck decided the win for the Hornets. Other scores for the Hornets included Garrett Crabtree (86), Ryan Price (91), and Elijah Sisk (103).
Jake Smith has been selected by the 3rd Region Sports Network staff as the Hornet Player of the Week. Jake rushed 18 times for 148 yards and 1 touchdown on offense and had 4 tackles on defense.
Garrett Hedden turned in an outstanding performance Friday night at Ohio County. Garrett finished the game with 10 tackles and a goal line interception which he returned 35 yards.

The Hornets were led by Tanner Staples (34), Justin Kurz (37), Garrett Crabtree (42), Ryan Price (44) and Elijah Sisk (51).
Hornet Golf placed 6th over the weekend at Madisonville Country Club. Led by Tanner Staples (76) and Garrett Crabtree (78) the Hornets (336) came up short against Owensboro Catholic (303). Other scores for the Hornets included Justin Kurz (83), Elijah Sisk (99) and Ryan Price (108).
The Lady Hornet cross country team placed 1st at the Madisonville-North Hopkins Invitational today with a score of 44 outdistancing second place Owensboro by 28 points. The girls were led by Emily Woodward's 2nd place finish. The Lady Hornets placed 3 runners in the top 8 (Woodward 2nd, Sydney Young 4th, Lexi Nicholas 8th) and 3 more in the top 20 (Jessi Glover 15th, Maddy Jackson 18th, Carson Wheatley 20th). Other finishers for the Lady Hornets were Tatum Mersch (36th), Alex Kratzer (47th), Hope Emmick (50th), Sarah Hess (64th), Lauren Jackley (71st), and Katherine Woodward (87th).
The Hornets placed 6th out of 11 teams. The boys were led by George Marsh's 8th place finish. Austin Schadler (20th), Dalton Richards (32nd), Wes Nevitt (37th), Tyler Hays (49th), Dylan Means (65th), and Nathan Huddy (66th) scored for the Hornets. Other finishers were Cameron Chappell (68th), Tyler Walz (71st), Brennan Flake (90th) and Wes Wheatley (101st). The cross country teams will race next on Thursday September 3rd at Vastwood in the Race for the Spikes border rivalry against Breckinridge County, Ohio County, and Cloverport. |
